Dr. Jerry R. Staples
Senior Pastor
Rev. Dr. Jerry R. Staples comes from a long line of ministers. He answered the call to preach, was licensed December 8, 1991 and was ordained March 25, 1995 by the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Beckley, West Virginia, after being called as pastor of First Baptist Church, Price Hill, WV. He is the youngest son of Mrs. Virgie A. Staples and the late Rev. Nelson B. Staples, Jr. He is married to Cassandra D. Staples. They were married on December 31, 1980 and were high school sweethearts 6 years prior to being married.
During his first pastoral call of seven years, Rev. Dr. Jerry R. Staples, under divine inspiration of God, lead the First Baptist Church of Price Hill from being one of the smallest congregations in the state of West Virginia, to one which had the largest Sunday school in the state of West Virginia. Being led of God, he resigned as pastor of First Baptist and returned to Mt. Zion Baptist Church whereby he served his dad, the Rev. Nelson B. Staples Jr. with practical love for 8 years, whose health was failing, could not lead his congregation as he once did, and passed from death unto life at 86 years of age in September of 2008.
Dr. Jerry R. Staples presently serves as senior pastor of the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, West Virginia, since June 3rd, 2012. During his tenure at Liberty, the Sunday school is now thriving, the Bible study has record attendance, a baptismal pool has been added to the sanctuary, the sound system has been completely updated, a new steamtable has been purchased, a new office and restroom is being added, and the back to school bash and community cookout has been a storming success. Dr. Staples is a devoted husband, a loving father, a better grandfather, an outstanding teacher, and filled with the Holy Spirit of God.
